Welcome to BVRITN

"Model United Nations" third edition - BVRIT MUN 2019.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS

The MUN culture has started in BVRIT Narsapur in the year 2017.This year we proudly organized the third edition -BVRIT MUN 2019. The event was for two days filled with impeccable discussion, debates and heated arguments. We at BVRIT believe that these simulations will encourage delegates to broaden their horizons by learning and networking.
The students are transformed into diplomats to voice their opinions on the global issues which lead them to understand that individual can make a difference to the world.

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an extra-curricular activity in which students typically roleplay delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. This activity takes place at MUN conferences, which is usually organized by a high school or college MUN club. At the end of most conferences, outstanding delegates in each committee are recognized and given an award certificate.Thousands of middle school, high school, and college students across the country and around the world participate in Model United Nations, which involves substantial researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.

The following were the committees that were simulated in this MUN:

(1)The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations (UN), charged with the maintenance of international peace and security as well as accepting new members to the United Nations and approving any changes to its United Nations Charter. Its powers include the establishment of peacekeeping operations, the establishment of international sanctions, and the authorization of military action through Security Council resolutions.
UNSC is one of the most powerful bodies of U.N general assembly. Due to its complex and bureaucratic structure which obstruct its smooth functioning make it impossible for UNSC to make any real world changes. So our sole focus during the session was  to come up with plausible reforms to reinforce the struggling UNSC.

AGENDA:-Discussing possible reforms in the United Nations Council.

(2)The United Nations Human Rights Council(UNHRC) is a United Nations body whose mission is to promote and protect human rights around the world. The UNHRC investigates allegations of breaches of human rights in UN member states, and addresses important thematic human rights issues such as freedom of association and assembly, freedom of expression, freedom of belief and religion, women's rights,LGBT rights, and the rights of racial and ethnic minorities.
The various loopholes in the present human right regulations has enabled these countries to commit multiple human right violations. So the time was right to have a public discussion and pass regulations to protect basic rights and dignity of the LGBTQ communities.

AGENDA:- Universal acceptanceof LGBT Rights.

(3)The United Nations General Assembly First Committee (also known as the Disarmament and International Security Committee orDISEC) is one of six main committees at the General Assembly of the United Nations. It deals with disarmament and international security matters.Theintroduction of new and advanced machinery is resulting in rise of tensions and may result in another terrible war. So we need to intervene immediately and place some limitations to this before it further escalates into a world war.

AGENDA:-Reducing the global defence expenditure.

The Global military spending is at a record high and is raising rapidly. As tensions between countries increase, the amount of money the countries spend on military is increasing at a substantial pace and is eating away the money that should be invested in infrastructure, public welfare etc.

The college alumni was a crucial part behind the success of this MUN because they had been completely backtracking the entire conference with their sheer experience and extensive knowledge which enhanced the conference. By the virtue of the excellence of the Executive Board, all the delegates were very keen enough to get through the whole process and conference again and surely did impact a lot more on their perspective and the way they perceived the global agenda.

It has been a grand success this year and surely the Secretariat would like to bring in more changes because there is always a room for improvement with respect to the quality of the audience from the external sources i.e.  Students from different colleges. Therefore with a huge turnout this year, we surely are expecting a lot more for the next year and until then we urge all the students to get inclined towards the global issues such that there is a good quality of debate the next time. By this we rest our case and this is BVRITMUNSecretariatsigning off until next time.
