Mechanical Overview

INTRODUCTION

The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in B. V. Raju Institute of Technology (BVRIT) in the year 2009 with an annual intake of 60 students, is known for excellent results with maximum students securing. Now an annual intake has been increased to 120 from the academic year 2012-2013. M.Tech in Engineering Design started in the year 2014 with an annual intake of 18 students.The Mechanical Engineering department at BVRIT is well equipped and amenities with latest state of the art labs procured from top level companies and manned by highly qualified & experienced faculty members. The students are trained in latest versions of mechanical software packages like AutoCAD, ANSYS, Solid Works, Solid Edge, FEMAP, Pro/ENGINEER 4.0, Master CAM, FLUENTetc. There are also special purpose machines like CNC Lathe and CNC Milling.

The department of Mechanical Engineering has experienced faculty in the areas of Design, Thermal, Production and Industrial engineering, i.e., the major areas of Mechanical Engineering. All the faculties possess the minimum qualification of post graduation. They have published a good number of research papers in refereed International / National Journals and International / National Conferences. Faculty published papers in peer reviewed international journals such as ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Journal of Heat Transfer, International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer (Elsevier, UK), an International JETEAS Journal UK and International ARPN Journal etc.

A major effort of the department is directed towards the creation of a stimulating intellectual environment in which undergraduate students can develop to their maximum potentials. Faculty members encourage undergraduate students to participate in both fundamental and applied research. Students have excellent opportunities to participate actively in the classroom and laboratories and to follow special interests within a subject area. Hence we provide students with the foundational skills needed to understand, exploit, and enhance the mechanical behavior of advanced engineering devices and systems, and to make creative contributions at the forefront of the field.

The department has adopted latest teaching learning processes like e-learning, google apps, power point presentations, seminars, industrial visits, expert Lectures from Industry and academia Personnel etc. We take special efforts to reduce the gap between Industry & Institute by arranging internships during semester breaks or summer in companies such as Nissan Ashok Leyland, BHEL, Visakhapatnam Steel plant, NTPC, Bakelite Hylam, ONGC, Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Ordinance Factory, Sundaram Clayton Limited, Schneider Electric, Anjani Portland Cements, SAMKRG Pistons, NATCO Pharma and Aurobindo Pharma Limted etc. All the students of 2009-2013 batch are completed their interns during this (2012) summer.

The department is encouraging the students to participate in work shops and conferences to exchange latest technologies among students. The students are presented technical papers in reputed institutes like IITS, NITS, BHU, BITS Pilani and won prizes in IIT Madras, BITS Pilani and BHU, Varanasi. Mechanical engineering students developed Electric car and presently working on hybrid car, All terrain vehicle, Solar operated golf cart. Also Department of Mechanical Engineering started BVRIT SAE (society of automotive engineers) INDIA student chapter with 108 members in the year 2011.

The Mechanical Engineering Department strives to be recognized globally for outstanding education and research leading to well-qualified engineers as well as managers who are innovative/creative, entrepreneurial and successful in advanced fields of engineering and research to take up social responsibilities with ethics.

  • To provide innovative technology solutions to solve a wide range of complex scientific, technological and social problems in Mechanical Engineering field.
  • To provide opportunities supported by continuous industry – institute interaction aimed at promoting employability, entrepreneurship, leadership and research aptitude among students.
  • To prepare the students who are psychologically strong and emotionally balanced imbibed with social consciousness and ethical values.

  • PEO 1: To nurture students with profound basic theoretical knowledge along with practical skills in the core area of mechanical engineering viz. Design, Manufacturing, Thermal, Industrial Engineering and management along with modern analytical and computational tools.
  • PEO 2: To strengthen the students to be able to exhaust excellence in their field of interest through engineering projects, Industrial visits/internships and take up research assignment in societal context or entrepreneurial context.
  • PEO 3: To graduate with the confidence professional ethics and motivation for lifelong learning that is necessary for them to be leaders in their chosen field of endeavor.

  • To disseminate the Knowledge and Research findings through Technical papers presented and published in conferences/seminars/ journals at the National and International level.
  • To organize programs conducive to Technical and Intellectual Advancement of students and also help in developing Overall Personality of students.
  • To Undertake Extension work and to Appraise people in rural areas about the developments in the field of Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Y. Krishna Reddy, the Principal of B. V. Raju Institute of Technology, Vishnupur, Narsapur, Medak District as earlier worked as professor of Mechanical Engineering CBIT, Hyderabad. He did his graduation from JNTUA, Anantapur(1976-81) and post-graduation from IIT Kharagpur (1981-83). He pursed his doctoral and research work at IIT Kharapur on fill time basis for 3 years on lien from CBIT. He had worked for two years in US on software projects. He has a passion for teaching. He is a life long learner. Learnt and taught many programming languages and CAD packages for Mechanical Engineering students. He was instrumental in computerization of academic & exam cell and controller of exams activities of CBIT.

Some highlights of his career are:

  1. Over 33 years of teaching, research and administrative experience and the entire service in CBIT, Hyderabad.
  2. Worked as Principal of one Engineering College in Prakasam District, AP affiliated to JNTUK, Kakinada for two years from Jan 2013 to Jan 2015 on lien from CBIT.
  3. Ratified as Principal by JNTUK, Kakinada in Mar 2014.
  4. Pursued research work at IIT Kharagpur for 3 years on full time basis as an Institute scholar on study leave from CBIT (1989-92).
  5. M.Tech (Mech.Handling) from IIT Kharagpur (1981 – 83).
  6. Published papers in international journals (published from Germany), and in Indian Journal of Institution of Engineers (India).
  7. Presented/submitted papers at International conferences jointly held by American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Japanese Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) held in USA.
  8. Worked as SAP Technical Consultant.
  9. Worked in Software industry in USA on H1B visa for about two years (2000-2001).

Indian Prokart endurance championship(IPEC-2K18) and hosted Asia E-Bike Challenge

Department of Mechanical Engineering conducted successfully Indian Prokart Endurance championship(IPEC-2K18) and hosted Asia E-Bike challenge from 13th to 16th March 2018 at B.V.Raju Institute Of Technology Narsapur.

The IPEC-2K18 event was conducted in two phases viz virtual and dynamic round. 31 teams got registered for virtual round throughout India. They submitted the design reports prepared by using Mechanical Engineering software’s in the month of Jan'2018 and 25 teams were selected for the dynamic round. The dynamic round consists of six rounds starting with technical inspection followed by Brake test, Acceleration test, Autocross, Skidpad and Endurance. During the event, Technical Inspection was held on 13th and 14th March 2018. Indian Prokart Endurance Championship(IPEC-2K18) inauguration was held on 13th March 2018 with Chief guest Dr.Rao M.Chalasani Managing Director, Auto Deccan Private Limited and Guest of honour Mr.Prakash Kalbagh Executive Director, M.G.Automotives Zaheerabad along with Chairman Sri K.V.Vishnu Raju garu, Vice Chairman Sri Ravichandran Rajagopal garu and Director Dr.S.Sunderrajan garu. Brake test and Acceleration test was held on 14th and 15th March 2018.Autocross and skid pad tests were conducted on 15th March 2018 followed by a cultural programme and one-hour DJ All the participants of IPEC-2K18 and Asia E-Bike challenge had enjoyed a lot during the cultural night.

Endurance was conducted on 16th March 2018 by dividing the teams into two groups consisting of 11 each.Each group has been given a time of 20 min and top 10 were selected for the final race based on lap count in 20 min. Indian Prokart endurance championship(IPEC-2K18) valedictory was held on 16th March 2018 with Chief Guest Sri M.Jerome General Manager MRF and Guest of honour Shri Govind Kumar garu Senior Lead Engineer Johndeere Vice Chairman Ravichandran Rajagopal and Director Dr.S.Sundararajan garu along with prize ceremony. 23 teams had participated in all the rounds of the event and 22 teams were qualified for Endurance(racing).2 teams have not participated due to their internal exams. Prize money of worth 3 lakhs is given for all the winners of Indian Prokart endurance championship(IPEC-2K18). Four women teams have participated in IPEC-2K18 to encourage the women teams IPEC team has given a special prize of worth 25,000 to keep up the spirit. The winner's list is being attached. Department of Mechanical Engineering also hosted Asia E-Bike challenge in which 20 teams have got registered.5 teams got eliminated during a virtual round and 5 teams were disqualified in technical inspections.Finally, 10 teams had participated in endurance for the one-hour duration. The coverage of IPEC-2K18 and Asia E-Bike challenge in print and electronic media are attached. The media had given a wide publicity to the event and college. The event had been conducted by all the safety measures required. With immense support of faculty, students of Mechanical Engineering along with an administrative staff of the college. The event had been a grand success.

IMTEX Forming 2014 is the International exhibition organized by the Indian machine tool manufacturers Association (IMTMA). 24 institutes participated and exhibited their innovation to the competitive world of forming technology. Our prestigious institute became the only one to be participated from the state of AP. The selection of projects and institutes was very tough but our college got opportunity to exhibit the research by becoming one among 24. Moreover, around 400 companies from 24 countries participated at IMTEX-2014.
